This is an ongoing project which will eventually include hundreds of drawings. Each drawing of myself is fed into a deepface AI which then translates them into a synthesised face image. Each image represents a face that never existed but will share some of my own features. None of the images are a close representation of my face, but somehow they still hold my gaze and help me question my own sense of self.

Circling Sound





Circling Sound / 2009
10 Speakers, sensors, dvd player, surround amp, custom electronics and code.

A single user immersive sound installation using found and engineered audio recordings taken from various natural and mechanical locations. Cicling Sound transforms this into a cacophony of sound creating the appearance of a physical presence, which dislocates the users from the comfort of their surroundings. Through transferring these sounds between the 10 speakers immersion into the work is created by the steadily disorientation of fluctuating tempos and volumes. We ourselves are the producers of so much sound and yet the work aims to over enhance the experience. Circling Sound was displayed at Virtually Real, a Cybersonica exhibition for the i-Design Conference 2009. captincaptin was presented by Kinetica Museum. BUSY OFFICE ON A LUNCH BREAK OR LIQUIDATED BUSINESS DESTINED FOR AN AUCTION LOT?

Presenting a familiar environment, a part of but apart from the every day. You have walked past a reception and into a seemingly familiar space, at once banal but then baffling. Scale, time, natural light and your role in all this seem variable, uncertain and at risk.

Whether you have had a job for life, you are on a zero-hours contract or an unpaid intern, Production Methods will seem familiar to all that have ever worked. With an unsettling sense of scale the artwork places you amidst the infrastructure and digital technologies that influence so many of our waking and working hours. Throughout the space the remains of a bankrupt business sit, machines still running but the workers absent.

When visiting the gallery it might be buzzing with energy, and words, or lying dormant waiting for the start of the business day. The boxes that dominate the space are the kind hastily packed with possessions and clutched by a worker just made redundant. Containing within them the promises and produce of marching progress, these boxes also serve as the site of artistic production.
